MACKINAW CITY, MICHIGAN

Downtown Mackinaw City is a tourist town that feels like a home town. We visit this quaint city (town) by bike as it is only three miles from the campground. The campground that has 600 sites if filled to capacity during July and August.
Beautiful flowers like this are planted along the brick sidewalks in town. At times it feels as if we are walking through gardens with all the flowers, plants, and trees throughout town. Besides all the lovely plant life, Lake Huron can be seen from many areas of town.

The town is easy to walk around as it is not very large; however, there are many shops, museums, and restaurants. Spring is in full bloom. Pasties, a pastry enclosing potato, meat, and rutabaga with gravy over the top are a speciality of this area. Also, there are many folks of Polish origin here so we have had the pleasure of eating great Polish food.

In the upper lower part of the peninsula, winter brings an average of 100" of snow. Lake Huron and Lake Michigan freeze over during part of the winter. This spring bush is lovely and one we have never seen before.
