ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENTS - TORONTO, CANADA

We ate lunch in the Royal Courtyard which was surrounded with plants and water fountains.
This flower was very unusual. The courtyard was a very peaceful place to have lunch. Tables were set up and this was an area for those who brought a picnic lunch as we did.

Another interesting flower in the courtyard.

This is the Mediterranean Garden and as it turns out, there are very few places in the world that has a Mediterranean type climate and can produce the plants that only grow in this climate. Below is the map of those places on earth. It is very interesting and something we had not realized before. Also going into the Mediterranean Garden there is a warning that temperatures can get up to 104 degrees. It was quite warm in there and humid, but I don't think it was in the higher temperature ranges while we were visiting

Pomegranate tree and fruit.
Spanish Pine Tree.

Italy - Figs. My mom used to love figs and one of the best gifts we could give her was a box of fresh figs.

Two pictures of the fig tree. I can't ever see a fig or fig tree without thinking of my mom.

Italy - Olive tree- above and below. The branching is so interesting.

Gold fish in the pond at the Mediterranean Garden.

Chile - Puya Flower.

Chile - Another enchanting flower.

Various plants from Chile.
Chile - These white flowers are flowers from a Cedar tree.

Chile - More pictures of this exotic flaming flower.

Mediterranean Cork Oak tree that Walter is leaning against. See below had rugged the cork looks, but it feels soft like a cork.

This is a layout of the Hendrie Garden which features the Rose Garden, Theme Gardens including Medicinal Garden, Scented Garden, and Woodland Garden.

As the Hendrie Garden is entered, this lovely promenade is the first thing you see. At the end is a Tea House where Walter and I later stopped for a spot of tea.

Flowers along the promenade.
In an alcove off the promenade was this lovely spot to sit and reflect.
More flowers and then this enchanting water fountain.

A Tiger Lily plant. When Gina was in Indian Princesses, her name was Tiger Lily.

The Tea House and flowered garden,

Medicinal Garden - early onion plant
Sundial - The blocks listed the months of the year and when you stepped on the current month, you could tell the time by the bush where your shadow provided shade.

TORONTO - ST. LAWRENCE MARKET AND HARBOUR SIDE

Arriving by GO train from near the campground. This is a three decker.
Toronto is a very large and busy city with good public transportation.
The building to the left is the CN Tower where there is a spectacular 360 degree view of the city at that little round thing at the top.
Bicycle for two - How about bicycle for 30!

Two old time brands of Cuban cigars.

A closer look at the CN Tower. There are many very beautiful modern buildings throughout the downtown area.
Walking along a downtown street.

Hanging flower baskets like this are everywhere around town.
The folks from Toronto love eating out during their summers and these festive restaurant patios are very popular.

The downtown St. Lawrence Market has a large selection of meats and seafood along with many other food products.
One of many booths for lunch while in the market.

Non food items and crafts along with a few shops for clothing.
The CN Tower; turn around and Harbour Front with its restaurants, shops, boardwalk, and Lake Huron at your pleasure.

One of the small ferries going from Harbour Front to the Toronto Island across the way.
Enjoying the boardwalk.

A look at two of many Condos at Harbour Front that have a view of Lake Huron and Toronto's downtown.
Parked are the larger ferry and Lake cruise ship.

A licensed Patio means they can serve alcohol.
Another ferry with a few of the Toronto Islands across the water. There are beaches, trails for walking and biking, and an amusement park at the island.

Pleasure and fishing boats. We are sitting in Second Cup which is a great coffee shop watching the harbor and enjoying Lake Huron.
This is another entrance at Harbour Front where there are shops and restaurants .
