LBJ RANCH - BOYHOOD HOME - JOHNSON CITY

LBJ lived in this house in Johnson City from the age of 5 until he graduated high school. He moved here with his dad and mom, Sam and Rebekah, and his two sisters. Another sister and a brother would be born in this house.

His family was doing well at this time. His dad was a state legislator and LBJ learned much about politics during this time and developed the necessary skills of a successful politician. His mom was one of the few college-educated women in the area. Below is the kitchen.
While the house had no electricity, his dad used a generator so they could have a radio to hear the news, and nightly the family would debate the pros and cons of the day's news events.

The parlor.
Rebekah's sewing machine.

The desk where Rebekah managed the household accounts and the finances of the family.

LBJ's sister's bedroom
Rebekah's dressing table. The picture on the wall is that of Rebekah.

The bedroom LBJ shared with his younger brother.
When summer nights got too hot, the family would all slept in this back porch screened-in room.

The back of the house showing the sleeping porch. It is a mystery to us how that bright heart shaped object showed up in this picture.
The tool shed in the yard. They had chickens for eggs, other animals, and a vegetable garden. Sometime in LBJ's teenage years, his dad made some unsuccessful investments that left the family in severe financial crisis and they had to leave this homesite.
