MT. HOOD OREGON

Mt. Hood at over 11,000 feet and we are not too far from the top.

One of the many ski and snowboarding summer schools. These youngster were beat after this session. We told one of the counselors of a youngster still in the lodge with Ipod on and face down on the table sound asleep. They retreived him

Dedication of the Timberline Lodge by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937.



In front of the Timberline. At President Roosevelt's dedication, it was said of the project that the Timberline is the people's lodge and everyone's success story. It was the government coming together to put people back to work after the depression, not only to help our citizens, but to build up America for future generations.



Cascades restaurant in the Lodge where we had a very excellent lunch including their special hot cocoa with toffee bits!







Looking up one of the many fireplaces to the rafters. Timberline is furnised with original paintings, carved linoleum, mosaic glass, sculpted wood, stone and metal all created by WPA artisans.

Metal work designed and built on the project. Skilled workers trained and worked with unskilled workers to build everything from materials in the area.

The staircase also designed and built by WPA workers is still beautiful nearly 70 years later.

CHINESE GARDEN - PORTLAND, OREGON

The Classical Chinese Garden of Portland - Winding walkways, a bridged lake, and open pavillons frame this exquisitely arranged landscape of plants, water, stone, architecture, and poetry. These five elements are essential to the Ming stlye urban garden from Portlands sister city Suzhou.


Entrance to the Chinese Garden - The centuries-old design embodies the Chinese concepts of harmony and tranquility, of capturing the infinite wonders of the univers within a
limited urban space.

On this side of the wood screens are poems in pictures and on the other side are written poems.

The Tea House where wonderful teas and small snacks are served. As you can see the doors and windows open out to allow the beauty of the garden to be seen and felt.

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE - LATOURELL FALLS

Latourell Falls - I am a speck at the base of this thundering falls.

Water from the falls makes a soothing sound as it flows over and around the rocks.
