The antique 5-tiered pogoda lantern was given to Portland from its sister city, Sapporo, Japan.
The Lantern here has one leg in the water and one leg on land symbolizing the union between water and land.
Japanese gardens have few flowers, but many ponds, waterfalls, and sculptures. The garden plants are generally shades of green and red. The sculpture is representing a Blue Heron.
