ISLA AGUADA CARNIVAL

This coast of the Yucatan peninsula is on the Gulf of Campeche. Campeche itself is an early walled Spanish colonial city with a Mardi Gras or "Carnaval" tradition very similar to that of New Orleans, another Spanish colonial city of the same era. Isla Aguada has a small town version of that of the big sister city of Campeche further north along the coast.

In one of the pleasant surprises of the trip, our campground manager alerted us to the Carnival parade for tonight. We had sufficient early notice that we could carry our chairs to a great strategic point along the parade and watch it from the front row. It was only a few blocks evening walk from our beachfront campground.
Teri is delighted with the show. Our Canadian friends Fern and Annette are to her right.
These were the "Sexy Boys".

Some of the girls marching to Cuban and other latin rythms were barefoot but keeping up quite well.
In this troupe they were all barefoot.
This advanced dancer approached as I was focusing to shoot the picture.
Marching to a latin beat.

Here are "Las Cubanas". Maybe they arrived in Isla Aguada by boat? That would be a really long trip by small boat from the westernmost province of Cuba.
