ISLA MUJERES - NORTH END

Today we explore Isla Mujeres. Isla Mujeres (Women Isle) was named by Spanish explorers in the early 1500's after seeing many cult statues to the Mayan Moon Godess. This will also be the Eastern-most point in our trip and the closest point to Cuba.

The caravan group ride-shares in toads and tow trucks to the Puerto Juarez ferry docks and we take a quick 6 mile ferry ride to the North side of the island.

Jim and Susan from Clyde, NC, are spending the day with us exploring.
We rent a gas golf cart and take turns driving it around the island.
There are the usual tourist shopping districts and restaurant lined streets.
We stop for lunch at a pizza restaurant recommended in the Frommers Guide. The picture shows most of the beer brands sold in Mexico. I liked most of the ones I tried - never got a headache from any of them.
Here is a beach hotel at the north end of the island - this is what a REAL Caribbean beach looks like! The water is warm and crystal clear. The sand is silky and cream colored. There are few weeds.
